WEEK 12

WEEK 12
Most people have been bullied sometime in their lives and know the pain it can cause. Being politically correct was put in place to protect people from verbal violence so this is not done to those who cannot protect themselves. Yet I’m sure many of you know what it is to be blamed for something you didn’t do, or have been treated unfairly. This is why I am researching the negative effect political correctness has on society.Although Political Correctness was put in place to protect people, it seems that people have forgotten the intended purpose and are abusing it. Through its original creation, opinions of how it has gone wrong, and ways to revise it use, you will understand why things are getting the way they are.

I made my intro to not be too long so that I can get in the main information. Along with going with people’s emotions by bringing up events that most people have gone through that they don’t like. This way the reader is connected in feeling and interest. Then I stated my thesis and main points.

wallet return, about 55 years. This interesting story is located in the great state of Washington so I thought I would bring light upon the subject. Recently a pair of classic car collectors found an interesting object in an old vintage 1946 Hudson car they are planning to restore. Now when fixing up most old things many interesting things can be found, old coca cola cans, weird parts, you name it. But in this situation an old wallet with “some small change - the leather wallet held a $10 bill, Mr Goodlove's military ID, his Social Security card, his driver's licence and several jewellery receipts from 1952. But they were all in the name of Glenn Putnam.”. Intrigued by their new find the men looked on the internet to find this Glenn Putnam but were unsuccessful until they researched more and saw he had changed names and addresses. After a phone call that started off as two strangers, talking about a story neither one was knowledgeable about, the past owner realized the whole story. He lost his wallet while on break from the nave. One night he took his fathers car up to a lookout with a fine young lady and somehow lost his wallet. The wallet is being returned after 55 years. So if you lose a wallet wait 55 years before you give up on it, because you never know if you’ll finally get the call saying someone has found your wallet.

Response to everything yet nothing

Since the elections, much has changed. History is in the making America will have its first black President. And even though people might be angry that their candidate did not win, there is an undeniable fact that it is a historic event. Now no racial bias should be sent out because now it is clear that race is not a factor. So good job America we’ve changed for the better. But other than this it is time for business. In recent activities with Obama it is clear that he is going to do something. With a 75% support, and all the legislatures controlled by one side, change should be expected. However when recently polled about Barack Obama over ¾ of the people interviewed said that they were unsure of what Obama will change in office. This is undeniably a funny fact because people have been so happy to hear a change from Bush’s last years, yet are in the dark of what is going to happen. Personally I believe change should only be looked as good if you know it is going to be change for the better. So hopefully in the next 4-8 years, Obama will “change” our country and for the better. It is good to hear he plans to quickly take initiative though. At his first interviews he made it sound as if change will not be happening quickly, and it will not be the change that everyone was expecting. Meaning he can’t please everyone, especially right away. So when I saw in the papers that Obama is planning to take action quick, it pleased me, because a person should be judged on his actions and the intentions behind them. Due to lack of past examples on Obama I hope he is really as great as people make him out to be. And even I will be a proud Obama supporter as long as he is doing well for America. I know others have doubts however which is normal after elections, because the stocks went down 10% after the election, and gun sales increased dramatically. So hopefully change does happen quick and for the best.

Naysayer Be Gone

For the topic of my paper there are many naysayers. This is for good reason and I can understand why. Being Politically Correct is meant to protect people, and it has for many people and many people wish it to be stronger, possibly because they have not been protected enough. So it is understandable for people to not like me writing against protection from Political Correct subjects, but at the same time they should hopefully understand my opinion. In that it takes away freedom of speech and actually causes harm, and creates weakness too. In my essay I plan to address the naysayer and actually show how my subject has support behind it also. In return they may hopefully understand where I’m coming from. Since I personally understand both sides, and mean to show that both sides are neither totally wrong nor totally right.

Thesis D1

Thesis

Although Political Correctness was put in place to protect people, it seems that people have forgotten the intended purpose and are abusing it. Through its original creation, opinions, and ways to revise it use, you will understand why things are getting the way they are.

Response to SNL

SNL
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/11/02/john-mccains-saturday-nig_n_140081.html

As the political commercials hit the climax before never having to see another for four years they get better and better. Recently the Republican candidates for the President/Vice President have appeared on Saturday night live. John McCain was the first sitting senator on SNL in 2002 and possibly due to lack of campaign funds Vice President candidate Sarah Palin and Presidential runner John McCain have made numerous appearances on SNL. Sometimes not being played by themselves. This political satire is about as American as it can be. The nonstop attack messages sent by Politicians are more than just annoying sometimes they’re humorous. In this running I believe the fact that the Republican hopefuls shows a lot about the different attitudes between the different sides. Although SNL started out attacking the Republican side with many Political Satires, the McCain party realized this is just how it is and to show this more they went on the show to further show it doesn’t affect them. However although I am going into this with a bias I feel the other side has been getting offended much more. When something bad about the Obama campaign comes up it either is quickly removed from the air or is turned around as a ruthless attack by the Republican Party. Although this is just the way it is and I very helpful for the Democrat party I don’t see it as very American. Freedom of Speech, the most influential and important part of this country seems to be gone in this election. Only one-sided views are being shown and many offenses are being taken about racial ignorance, and when it was between Obama and Hilary Clinton there was much turmoil of being ignorant to women. If we are all equal everything must be equal, people need to not be so offended over things and further have faith in who they believe they are instead of what people say about them. This only further supports my need to research political correctness and freedom of speech for my research paper.

Response ro Daily Evergreen

Recently there have been assaults on people of gay origin, which is very wrong. As the vast majority of people would agree with me on this. I am writing about an article in the Daily Evergreen because it is a subject that affect us all. These assaults were bias hate, but the subject that the paper brought up was the Woman’s Transit being overly used and ruining the original point of it. This subject struck me for the same reason as the reader. The women’s transit is made for emergency cases of girls who find themselves in a place they don’t want to be and didn’t expect to be. So in these certain cases they can safely get away from this and safely get home however in many cases it seems that people are using it more as a personal taxi service. This is not right for many reasons. Students are pretty much taxed or forced to pay for this service to be available for women. Many people probably don’t even realize they are paying for it. Not trying to complain about a good program, but personally when it is not used right I don’t really like to think that I am weekly paying for many women’s personal taxi system so they don’t have to take a bus or ask a friend to drive or possibly not go out. As brutal as this seems, I grew up in Spokane and I realize why they set up programs like this. In Spokane there are certain places where you shouldn’t be at certain times, and I do realize that sometimes you get stuck in a bad place to be and if you don’t have money to call a cab or can’t get a hold a person a program like this sounds pretty nice. However here in Pullman other than a few college guys who drink too much or a few crazies I would expect there are not too many cases where people find themselves with no other option than to take women’s transit. Now the transit has been opened for people of gay origin. I understand the reasoning for this. The school wants people to feel safe and be safe. So it is understandable why they would let gay people ride the transit since lately they have been under attack, yet I feel like this means only more cases of people taking the women’s transit as a taxi service. Instead of planning ahead and preventing themselves from having to take the women’s transit service themselves by putting themselves in an unsafe situation. I am unsure how to fix this except to tell people to only use it as a last resort or maybe keep track of how often them take it and why, and possibly confront. This problem is not too big, and does not affect people all to greatly but it struck a thought in me to write about it.
