Today Big news which was kind of old new became official. Presidential elect Barack Obama chose his past competitor Hilary Clinton as his Secretary of State. This was a wise decision as she has experience and his biggest chance of losing this last election was that when he was elected he lost much of the support from Clinton supporters. Hilary Clinton has more experience than him and has connections all around the world. This is exciting as I went to her speech when she campaigned in Spokane and actually was asked to sit behind her at the speech, I respectively declined as I knew I was only being chosen because I was one of the few young men there and felt it wrong since I knew I did not fully respect her and would not enjoy the experience as much as someone else there. So I kind of met a celerity I guess. But also Obama made some other smart decisions such as keeping Defense Secretary Robert Gates. Gates has been credited with much of the success of the surge. Bush made a good decision switching to Gates in my opinion and I believe so is Obama. So Obama has made some good decisions so far in this candidacy, lets all hope for more.

Since your research paper was peer reviewed on Monday, what have you identified as priorities for revision? How do you rank the priorities? Why?
My main priority is to make my whole paper flow better. To make my transitions flow better. Then I would like to use as much evidence as I can to make sure all my points are strong. I need to make sure I properly cite all my sources as they were not cited well in my first draft. All my priorities are important to change I am not sure if I would rank them.
Before your research paper was peer reviewed today, what did you view as strengths and weaknesses in your essay?
I thought my paper flowed better than it actually did, I knew I had much information and it was all backed up well. This allowed me to have strong points and I feel that I strongly emphasized my opinion and was convincing. A weakness I started with was for my topic I found many opinions for and against my topic but very little supported information. After searching a lot online and at the library I found a few good books and some scholarly recourse. Another difficulty I had was supporting my paper in the limited amount of space which will be nice for the portfolio.
Being Thankful!!!
This thanksgiving I am thankful that my whole family was able to have thanksgiving together since arguments have made this not possible lately.
Thanksgiving
Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays because I feel the traditions, the family connection, the great food, and the time to rest and be thankful. First of all thanksgiving has a lot of tradition behind it both as being America’s first holiday and it is a holiday that is celebrated by families and people all over America. The food itself is traditional in that usually Turkey is serves often with mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, and vegetables, and then finished with pie. Just that in itself is great. Also the symbolic tradition that the holiday is started from is that the Native Americans shared growing methods and food with the new settlers of America and is said that without their help the settlers would not have survived the first winter. Surviving a winter is something to be thankful with along with new friends. Another great thing about thanksgiving is the family connection usually involved in it. Families often travel long distances to see each other at times, or people try to spend Thanksgiving with close friends or immediate family. This family connection can also make this holiday very sad for those who have no one or place to spend it with. I know this cause I often had to travel on Thanksgiving and it is not fun. The final great thing to me about Thanksgiving is a nice time to take a break. Especially this year when college has been stressful it is nice to finally get to go home and just relax. This is why I love thanksgiving.
Film
A film I recently watched was the Lord of the Rings. These Movies were on T.V. and it reminded me how truly great these movies are since I have not watched them in a really long time. These movies are recreations of J.R. Tolkien’s books. These books show a lot of themes of good vs. evil, friendship, betrayal, courage, and fighting for what’s right. This movie was excellent just like the books were. There is so much detail in the story’s and even in the movies being about 3 hours each there is just too much. Yet the storyline and characters are easy to follow as some are very simple and some are very complex. The main character Frodo is the Protagonist and his antagonist is an evil ring he carries. This is an internal struggle he faces and the pain it creates is shown well in the movies and how it progresses until it beats him. Through his friends however he was able to get rid of his burden. Courage, good vs. evil, and betrayal are all shown by the other characters who are constantly fighting and becoming friends over time. This movie has a good story line, characters that are easy to relate to and idolize, along with tons of action and revolutionary graphics, this movie was able to win many awards and be viewed as a great movie. While also keeping Tolkien’s stories alive even after his death and the slow decline of people reading books, especially when they are as long as his.

WEEK 12
WEEK 12
Most people have been bullied sometime in their lives and know the pain it can cause. Being politically correct was put in place to protect people from verbal violence so this is not done to those who cannot protect themselves. Yet I’m sure many of you know what it is to be blamed for something you didn’t do, or have been treated unfairly. This is why I am researching the negative effect political correctness has on society.Although Political Correctness was put in place to protect people, it seems that people have forgotten the intended purpose and are abusing it. Through its original creation, opinions of how it has gone wrong, and ways to revise it use, you will understand why things are getting the way they are.
I made my intro to not be too long so that I can get in the main information. Along with going with people’s emotions by bringing up events that most people have gone through that they don’t like. This way the reader is connected in feeling and interest. Then I stated my thesis and main points.

wallet return, about 55 years. This interesting story is located in the great state of Washington so I thought I would bring light upon the subject. Recently a pair of classic car collectors found an interesting object in an old vintage 1946 Hudson car they are planning to restore. Now when fixing up most old things many interesting things can be found, old coca cola cans, weird parts, you name it. But in this situation an old wallet with “some small change - the leather wallet held a $10 bill, Mr Goodlove's military ID, his Social Security card, his driver's licence and several jewellery receipts from 1952. But they were all in the name of Glenn Putnam.”. Intrigued by their new find the men looked on the internet to find this Glenn Putnam but were unsuccessful until they researched more and saw he had changed names and addresses. After a phone call that started off as two strangers, talking about a story neither one was knowledgeable about, the past owner realized the whole story. He lost his wallet while on break from the nave. One night he took his fathers car up to a lookout with a fine young lady and somehow lost his wallet. The wallet is being returned after 55 years. So if you lose a wallet wait 55 years before you give up on it, because you never know if you’ll finally get the call saying someone has found your wallet.

Response to everything yet nothing
Since the elections, much has changed. History is in the making America will have its first black President. And even though people might be angry that their candidate did not win, there is an undeniable fact that it is a historic event. Now no racial bias should be sent out because now it is clear that race is not a factor. So good job America we’ve changed for the better. But other than this it is time for business. In recent activities with Obama it is clear that he is going to do something. With a 75% support, and all the legislatures controlled by one side, change should be expected. However when recently polled about Barack Obama over ¾ of the people interviewed said that they were unsure of what Obama will change in office. This is undeniably a funny fact because people have been so happy to hear a change from Bush’s last years, yet are in the dark of what is going to happen. Personally I believe change should only be looked as good if you know it is going to be change for the better. So hopefully in the next 4-8 years, Obama will “change” our country and for the better. It is good to hear he plans to quickly take initiative though. At his first interviews he made it sound as if change will not be happening quickly, and it will not be the change that everyone was expecting. Meaning he can’t please everyone, especially right away. So when I saw in the papers that Obama is planning to take action quick, it pleased me, because a person should be judged on his actions and the intentions behind them. Due to lack of past examples on Obama I hope he is really as great as people make him out to be. And even I will be a proud Obama supporter as long as he is doing well for America. I know others have doubts however which is normal after elections, because the stocks went down 10% after the election, and gun sales increased dramatically. So hopefully change does happen quick and for the best.
Naysayer Be Gone
For the topic of my paper there are many naysayers. This is for good reason and I can understand why. Being Politically Correct is meant to protect people, and it has for many people and many people wish it to be stronger, possibly because they have not been protected enough. So it is understandable for people to not like me writing against protection from Political Correct subjects, but at the same time they should hopefully understand my opinion. In that it takes away freedom of speech and actually causes harm, and creates weakness too. In my essay I plan to address the naysayer and actually show how my subject has support behind it also. In return they may hopefully understand where I’m coming from. Since I personally understand both sides, and mean to show that both sides are neither totally wrong nor totally right.

Response to SNL
SNL
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/11/02/john-mccains-saturday-nig_n_140081.html
As the political commercials hit the climax before never having to see another for four years they get better and better. Recently the Republican candidates for the President/Vice President have appeared on Saturday night live. John McCain was the first sitting senator on SNL in 2002 and possibly due to lack of campaign funds Vice President candidate Sarah Palin and Presidential runner John McCain have made numerous appearances on SNL. Sometimes not being played by themselves. This political satire is about as American as it can be. The nonstop attack messages sent by Politicians are more than just annoying sometimes they’re humorous. In this running I believe the fact that the Republican hopefuls shows a lot about the different attitudes between the different sides. Although SNL started out attacking the Republican side with many Political Satires, the McCain party realized this is just how it is and to show this more they went on the show to further show it doesn’t affect them. However although I am going into this with a bias I feel the other side has been getting offended much more. When something bad about the Obama campaign comes up it either is quickly removed from the air or is turned around as a ruthless attack by the Republican Party. Although this is just the way it is and I very helpful for the Democrat party I don’t see it as very American. Freedom of Speech, the most influential and important part of this country seems to be gone in this election. Only one-sided views are being shown and many offenses are being taken about racial ignorance, and when it was between Obama and Hilary Clinton there was much turmoil of being ignorant to women. If we are all equal everything must be equal, people need to not be so offended over things and further have faith in who they believe they are instead of what people say about them. This only further supports my need to research political correctness and freedom of speech for my research paper.

Response ro Daily Evergreen
Recently there have been assaults on people of gay origin, which is very wrong. As the vast majority of people would agree with me on this. I am writing about an article in the Daily Evergreen because it is a subject that affect us all. These assaults were bias hate, but the subject that the paper brought up was the Woman’s Transit being overly used and ruining the original point of it. This subject struck me for the same reason as the reader. The women’s transit is made for emergency cases of girls who find themselves in a place they don’t want to be and didn’t expect to be. So in these certain cases they can safely get away from this and safely get home however in many cases it seems that people are using it more as a personal taxi service. This is not right for many reasons. Students are pretty much taxed or forced to pay for this service to be available for women. Many people probably don’t even realize they are paying for it. Not trying to complain about a good program, but personally when it is not used right I don’t really like to think that I am weekly paying for many women’s personal taxi system so they don’t have to take a bus or ask a friend to drive or possibly not go out. As brutal as this seems, I grew up in Spokane and I realize why they set up programs like this. In Spokane there are certain places where you shouldn’t be at certain times, and I do realize that sometimes you get stuck in a bad place to be and if you don’t have money to call a cab or can’t get a hold a person a program like this sounds pretty nice. However here in Pullman other than a few college guys who drink too much or a few crazies I would expect there are not too many cases where people find themselves with no other option than to take women’s transit. Now the transit has been opened for people of gay origin. I understand the reasoning for this. The school wants people to feel safe and be safe. So it is understandable why they would let gay people ride the transit since lately they have been under attack, yet I feel like this means only more cases of people taking the women’s transit as a taxi service. Instead of planning ahead and preventing themselves from having to take the women’s transit service themselves by putting themselves in an unsafe situation. I am unsure how to fix this except to tell people to only use it as a last resort or maybe keep track of how often them take it and why, and possibly confront. This problem is not too big, and does not affect people all to greatly but it struck a thought in me to write about it.

Topic for research
Political Correctness.
A topic that stumbled onto me that I might want to research was political correctness. I would like to study how it has changed and what people think of political correctness. This topic interests me because I think political correctness causes lots of controversy and might be being pushed to far, destroying its original purpose. This topic would be interesting to research and I think could have many different views that will be fun to learn about.

Time Management
Time Management
The hardest switch for me when switching lifestyles from living at home as a high school student to a collegiate student has been learning to manage my time. In the past it was I thought it was difficult at times but when in comparisons to here at WSU, there was no comparison.
In the last four years I played three school sports, had extracurricular activities, friends and a girlfriend. I did my best to try to do my best in all these by making time for all of them. All of this while trying to get good grades in advanced placement classes and keeping my social perspective high. At this time I thought life could never be busier, during finals or weeks before grades were turned in I spent all of my time trying to improve my grades. At this time I would be about ready to tear my hair out with stress. But I managed and survived all while my parents would tell me I needed to learn some time management.
Now that I am learning what it is to be in college I have a whole new view about my past busy times. In high school I would have about four weeks out of the whole school year of really busy time. Now at WSU I feel like it is every week. In high school I managed because really it was not too hard. Here I must spend much time in everything I do if I hope to do well. Unfortunately now is the time when it really matters. So lately I have been trying to keep my mind on my studies. Although 16 credits doesn’t seem like all to much school work, it adds up especially with weekly Architecture projects, multiple papers, and quizzes, tests, and speeches the week seems to be to short to have anytime for anything but school work.
So until I find a perfect way to manage my time I will just keep on doing what I can. I can always remind myself that this is the final stretch do good in college and do good in like. Or so my parents tell me.

The Broken Pinkie
The Broken Pinkie
In recent NFL news quarterback Tony Romo is recently injured with a broken pinkie. I personally found this to be quite ironic. A big NFL quarterback, standing six feet two inches and weighing in at 224lbs will be out for another four weeks. Which doesn’t seem like all to much for an injury, for such a small one and for what is left of the NFL season it is quite hilarious, well not to much if you’re a big Cowboys fan. This injury has already led to a loss at Arizona. This whole experience just shows that football players have to be ready for everything and anything. Although this injury will heal, athletes season can be quickly shorted by any injuries. Whether it is a broken finger or broken back. Although this brings up a subject of the risks taken for entertainment, which is another blog and another day. So wish the athlete’s safety and Tony Room a quick recovery.
This can be related to our beloved cougar football team we seem to be going through quarterbacks like they were pennies. Unfortunately I don’t know if our losses can be relate entirely to the loss of quarterbacks but nonetheless does not help our current winning situation.
PS: Although that last paragraph is not directly related to the topic the article reminded me about the current football season here in WSU so I couldn’t neglect my thoughts.

Reading
Personally I like to read science fiction books and fiction books and political books. I find them much more of a relief than school reading. Not that all school reading is bad but sometimes you get stuck with a really bad book or writing which you are forced to read. Where as when you are reading your own book you get to choose it yourself and judge it for yourself. If you like reading it you continue to read it. If you don’t like the reading then you get rid of the book and look for a new one. Reading is a very relaxing activity that sometimes is better on the mind and body to relax rather than watching TV. Reading is a personal escape from about anything. This is probably why I like fiction books, because they are … fiction. Where as I also enjoy political books. I find these an insightful way to learn new things about politicians and their ideas and lifestyles
Colabborative
Over my lifetime I have down many collaborative assignments and tasks. My favorite one was one of my first. In about sixth grade we received a collaborative assignment to build a building that functioned electronically and looked good. Being our first collaborative essay everyone was confused at first. We all knew each other but had never been allowed to work with our peers without it is considered cheating. So at first everyone wanted to do it their own way, and after a few arguments with my friends we worked it out and took the best ideas that the group could agree upon. Each person was sent to do his or her own part of the project. One did the electronics, one made the outsides have the structure, one anted, and so on. This was much like real life and we did not even realize it. Everyone did his or her specialty and we made it all work together perfectly. While learning how to work in groups.

In this interesting and short article it compared whether or not Barack Obama is too thin for most Americans to relate to him. In this article it contained many interesting facts about past presidents. Such as that Republican President Abraham Lincoln was the tallest President at 6’4”. Through this article it showed that usually the taller running President wins, yet most likely this has about no real basis on who will be a President. This would also be a logical fallacy. “Mostly false cause” More interesting facts were that the heavier Presidents usually win also. The shortest President was James Madison stood only 5’4” tall. This article most likely has very little influence on the over all outcome of the elections yet were none the less interesting. Overall it actually seems that Presidential runner Barack Obama actually is very close to the average height of the presidents.

Logical Fallacies

Dear Steve Lee Myers of the New York Times,
In your recent article on the attacks McCain has had against Barack Obama I found you used a couple of logical fallacies. You started the article saying how the Obama campaign was trying to focus on the issues when the McCain campaign was trying to make up false faults instead of trying to find ways to fix the economy. I found you to be “stacking the deck”. This is due to the fact you accused McCain of doing all the allegations yet you worded your ending differently about how Obama has been talking about Palin. Talking poorly about her. Also I thought you were “red herring” because you seemed to avoid talking about all the allegations that the Obama campaign have been throwing out at McCain. To have a truly fair and unbiased paper you should adjust these changes in further articles.
Thank you, a reader,

Stategies for Personal Essays Monday, September 15, 2008
In my personal essay I tried to remember to follow as many hints from A Writers Resource (Maimon, Peritz, Yancey). In the writing it began by telling how important personal writing is and how true it is. Personal essays are meaningful not only to the writer but to the audience who reads. Personally I enjoy these essays because of how easy they are to relate to and to write. There is nothing a person knows more about than themselves, especially the really conceited ones.
The main tips that I received and used were to show that the essay is meaningful to the author. Secondly to not summarize events, instead go into detail to show emotion. Ironically the opposite of what I am currently doing. Making the essay personal is also very important hence why it is called a personal writing. I did this by trying to relate to others, I use first person, going into flash backs making the events seem to actually be happening. The key to a great personal essay in my opinion. These are the main points emphasized in a personal essay instructed by a writer’s resource.

If everyone can learn to trust and love peace will overcome. All the worlds’ problems can be solved with peace. Those who continually are overcome by their anger are only hurting themselves and each other more. War creates hate and vengeance. If we can all learn to forgive than we can all learn to live in peace? War is the reason for all problems; nothing has ever been solved with war.
War is regrettably the easiest way to revolutionize. War can create eternal enemies but it can also stop them. By making a person or people put down their guard by destroying it much can be accomplished. They realize how weak they are and to not try to impose on others ways of life. War although is given a bad reputation has fixed many of the worlds problems. When used for greed and power it is a horrible thing, but when used for good by protecting or stopping inhumane activities it can be the “grace of god”. War can show people how truly great life is, that at all cost we should try to be good to each other and to those who are not good to others there are repercussions for their crimes.

On this URL it is addressed if “McCain went to far in adds” on CNN’s internet news. Although the headline of this article was a quote I think there might have been a little bias in the overall article. Although the article had a mostly even contrast of how both politicians are wrong about the other the scale seemed to lean a little towards Obama being the nicer man. However even if this is true he’s a celebrity why wouldn’t he be nice? O that’s why its politics since the beginning of the American Democratic system of government there has been disputes between two opposing viewpoints. That is the way democracy works. The fact is that in politics people try to make their opponent lose. In order to do this they often do their best to bring out the worst in the opponent. Although this does not follow the golden rule it is a strategy that works. Rove wails on McCain for going to far but people said the same thing about Hilary Clinton and Barack Obama they both would tell the worst about the other. On this issue people did not like the rude comments Hilary and Bill Clinton said about their opponent, and it seemed that people did not seem to like it. I say let them bring out the dirt, how mean they are and how they react can tell the people a lot about their personality and how they will run the country. Since the original issues between Hamilton and Jefferson their has been anger against opposing viewpoints and people and it can cause people to do bad things. We as voters get to judge them for their actions, so why tell them not to if it’s who they are.

In the past few days the American people have been on edge. Let alone the whole world. The American stock market is plummeting day by day. Banks are being bought out and the American people are trying to figure out if their money is safe. In the article on Yahoo news it addresses the huge upset that occured. President Bush's bailout plan of 700 billion dollars was not approved by the hose. Both Republicans and Democrats alike were astonished by the vote. The plan was made in hopes to save the American economy that had already been diminishing. The house apparently decided that this plan could not work. However this does not fix anything. Hopefully they were right in doing this. Many people believe it was the wrong decision to bail out the banks. It is the people who need help, the people who are losing money. Why feed the large banks their tax money after they lost their savings. Apparantly the House agreed with this belief. Now however everyone is struggling to create a new solution and quickly. It is not a great time for the American economy. But with the right people working on it and the strength of america we shall overcome this current obstacle, hopefully sooner rather than later.

Thesis for Essay
Steroids are known for their amazing ability to increase athletic capability, but are they known for the harmful effects that come with them?
In professional sports to be the best is the main goal, but to be the best there should be guidelines that need to be shared by all athletes, such as not using steroids.
Atheletes have been idonlized by young and old throughout all human history, to allow them to cheat in order to succeed creates a bad viewpoint to all fans and followers.
Steroids have many amazing abilities that come with them; Improved strength, speed, muscle mass, and hair loss.
To be the best is a goal everyone should strive for does that include doing anything possible, whether or not it is believed to be morally right and fair?

Peer Review
Peer Review is beneficial for many reasons but is disliked for many reasons also. Peer review is a helpful way to have your paper critiqued in that having someone else reviews your paper is much more beneficial. This is because having a second reader can find many mistakes the writer will often time skip over. Much of this is due to that writers sometimes re-read their papers not so much by reading them but by rehearsing what they were thinking. Peer review is also beneficial in that you get a second perspective on how your paper is and you also get to see someone else's perspective on a paper. However difficulties are presented when doing a peer review. First you have to not be shy about your reading because you are going to be critiqued right to your face by a fellow student. This can create a level of inferiority by students, which can decrease their confidence in writing. Another difficulty with peer review is it often times can change your opinion to something you truly did not want to do, making your final paper not as well as it could have been.

Response on The U.N.
http://www.nytimes.com/2008/09/22/opinion/22collier.html
On this opinion article on the new york times the issue of what the U.N. is doing was brought up. That the poorest parts of the world are getting poorer. That we have been overestimating how good the world. The article said that the U.N. needs to help countries in the poorest part of the world catch up not the poor but fast growing counties and middle income countries continue to grow. Although i agree that the U.N. needs to make a change because they are no longer doing anything. Maybe the world should give America a little more respect we are one of the richest countries in the world and are constantly doing are part to help. America not the U.N. are the super heroes of the world whenever there is a national disaster, an evil ruler takes over, or a shortage of food who helps? America and the American people. The United Nations have become more a group of power loving representatives trying to see the world in the best way possible and trying to never make conflict. Instead of stepping in to stop conflict they will let it pursue in order to stay out of it themselves. America was looked down upon when Bush sent in troups into Iraq when looking for WMD's. Bush even at the time was trying to consent with the U.N. and if they would have helped instead of stopping maybe something would have been found. Maybe not, we will never know now. America was one of the founders of the United Nations to help keep the world in order instead it has slowly died into a relatively obsolete group.

Using quotes
I recently read an article from The Spokesman Review on the debate between Christine Gregiore and Dino Rossi. The author or the article Rachel La Corte used quotes well to emphasize. When blame was put on Gregoire the author said how she was quick to blame another politician in this case the Bush administration. Gregiore said " no place in America has escaped the failed economic policies of the George W. Bush administration policies that my opponent has supported. By using this quote the author both showed Gregoires view on her opponent Dino Rossi trying ot blame him while at the same time showing she was quick to shove off her own blame on the president. This quote along with others showed the writers view on the debate. While not making herself seem bias it seemed most of the quotes seemed to be a little more favorable to Rossi. Rachel La Corte was keen to bring in facts like the loss of jobs since Gregoire to office right before she would state Gregoire’s points making them seem obsolete..
Lessons From THEY SAY I SAY
Lessons From THEY SAY I SAY
In They Say I Say by Graff and Berkenstien from pages 17-47 the book helps to teach how to address a paper in which there is an opposing view to your own. In a good persuasive essay you should reveal the opposition first. Although this isn’t what we were taught earlier it shows we have more important events later in the essay. Other ways to begin persuasive essays are with past presenters on the same subject or using facts and quotes. Later in the reading it gave many useful examples of introducing different views. For example “On the one hand________argues________” putting your own argument in. A final intro method is to introduce with a view or topic that your audience agrees with then later bring up the argument that they disagree with. A truly good writer will keep the opposing argument in the writing the whole time and continue to prove your point. But an even better writer can make it seem that any point is their own, whether or not they actually support it. To make the paper stronger strong words should be used such words to emphasize your main point. To further increase the strength quotes should be used. However quotes should not be thrown in. They must be relevant and supported. The book used a “quote sandwich” meaning to set up the quote then show how it supports.
